Church and Society Series

These posts reflect a series of readings I put together for the bi-weekly meeting of a young married couples small group in the spring of 2007. The purpose was to provide the opportunity to engage, discuss, and reflect on ethical issues relevant to young married Christian couples living in a western society. This series also hoped to resolve some of the weaknesses I’ve experienced with doing book series, specifically:

  • It is easy for people to become disengaged if the first few chapters don’t strike a chord with the reader
  • Often they require committing to only a few topics for the duration of the series
  • In certain cases the reading level is above or below some members of the group
  • It can be difficult for visitors who come midway through a book series

The Church and Society Series is composed of 5 sections:

  • Church in America
  • Money
  • Medicine
  • War
  • Marriage

…where each section has two readings such that a group meeting bi-weekly will pursue one topic each month. I chose these topics because, with the exception of money, they seem to be encountered by Christians quite frequently but are rarely given the necessary attention of the church.

For ease of use, these posts are listed in ascending order, unlike the rest of this site.
